FIC and ICM host students from Yucatan, Mexico
Fraser International College (FIC) and the International College of Manitoba (ICM) welcomed 45 students from the International Mobility Program partnership with the Yucatan government from April 27 to May 28, 2024.
While FIC welcomed its fourth cohort of students, ICM received its first. Both programs offer enriching student experiences through English classes, research innovation spotlights, cultural trips, and service leadership opportunities.
The new ICM program included visits to the Royal Canadian Mint, Assiniboine Park Zoo, and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, sparking important discussions on human rights. Students engaged in community service at a long-term care home for Indigenous elders and a local food bank, deepening their understanding of culture and community support.
Both programs combined education, cultural immersion, and community service, resulting in significant positive impacts on the students. Students’ feedback emphasised the transformative nature of the experiences. They expressed deep gratitude and personal growth, highlighting the value of ongoing collaboration to provide impactful educational opportunities.
