Navitas wins 2024 BGH Capital Excellence in ESG Award
Congratulations to Navitas ESG Reporting Analyst, Neelam Ganatra, winner of the 2024 BGH Capital Excellence in ESG Award!
As 2024 winner of the ESG Award, Neelam has been invited to participate in the 2025 Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership’s (CISL) Sustainability Practitioner Programme taking place on 3-5 March 2025 in Melbourne.
In sharing news of the award Hari Morfis, General Counsel and Partner at BGH, said:
“We have been really impressed with the work that Neelam and the team have completed across the ESG agenda in 2024, particularly around climate risk and modern slavery, building on the significant work and investment Navitas has made over previous years. We are really excited to see this continue to develop next year, particularly as you prepare for mandatory climate reporting and think about related operational improvement opportunities.”
Launched in 2022, the BGH Capital Excellence Awards aims to encourage and celebrate success across its portfolio of businesses. Every year, companies within the BGH portfolio are invited to nominate a team member who has excelled in the year, with the ESG award recognising advancement of their company’s ESG agenda.
Neelam was nominated for this award by Julia Lambo, Director of Corporate Communications and ESG, in recognition of the impact she has had in progressing Navitas’ ESG strategy, and in particular the two strategic projects related to Climate Action and Modern Slavery.
Following Neelam’s extensive analysis of Navitas’ emissions over the past three years, the company can now report on emissions by Group, division, business unit and product type (pathway, managed campus, independent education provider) which allows Navitas to consider the sustainability of its offerings, and provides an ESG lens across the company’s growth strategy.
Julia Lambo said:
“Neelam has showed initiative by conducting detailed analysis of our locations in Australia to identify properties with unusually high energy usage. She has also engaged the divisional finance teams and Group property to review her analysis with a view to understanding why some properties are more efficient than others, and ultimately finding opportunities for energy reduction and cost savings.”
“Neelam has also taken the lead on improving the way we understand and report emissions associated with agent activity by setting up a working group with colleagues from the Sales & Marketing division to consider how to calculate emissions from agent activity more accurately. This process is expected to lead to a significant reduction in reported agent-related emissions in FY25 onwards.”
Neelam is currently preparing Navitas for the new carbon-related financial disclosure legislation, and in partnership with BGH, has organised a workshop to identify Navitas’ primary climate risks.
Commenting on her award win Neelam said:
“I’m so grateful to Navitas for the platform and recognition! It doesn’t feel like work when you enjoy it and simultaneously grow due to the challenges and opportunities presented to you each day”.
