ARU achieves two Green Gown Awards
ARU is proud to share the achievement of two awards at the prestigious Green Gown Awards in November 2023. Established in 2004, the Green Gown Awards recognise sustainability excellence in universities and colleges across the UK and Ireland.
As one of Navitas’ university partners in the UK, ARU is proud to receive the Green Gown Award for its Ruskin Modules, specifically winning the Next Generation Learning and Skills prize. Ruskin Modules is a unique initiative encouraging thousands of students to tackle important issues facing society. ARU students are encouraged to respond to global societal or cultural challenges from the real world. These challenges align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and cover four themes: the future; social and environmental justice; technology and data; and work and enterprise.
ARU was also highly commended for ‘Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Sustainability’ for its ‘Energy SHINES’ initiative. The Energy SHINES partnership is led by ARU’s Global Sustainability Institute (GSI) and looks at addressing the underrepresentation of women across energy research. It engages diverse perspectives to address the real-world challenges that organisations encounter while transitioning to achieve net zero carbon emissions.
The university has pledged to incorporate sustainability into every aspect of university life. These awards serve as a testament to how significantly the university has progressed towards that goal.
