Navitas and Birmingham City University announce partnership renewal
Birmingham City University (the University) and Navitas have announced a long-term strategic partnership renewal that will further broaden international education on campus and expand learning opportunities for international students.
The partnership between the University and Navitas’ Birmingham City University International College (the College) further cements the strong relationship between the two institutions who have worked seamlessly together for almost a decade. In that time they have focused on accelerating the University’s internationalisation goals by growing and diversifying its international student population; improving international students’ academic outcomes; broadening the University’s international programs and services; and enhancing its global reach and reputation.
The College opened in 2013 and has seen over 1300 students pass through its doors to the University, with 2020 tracer data showing that 46% of BCUIC alumni go onto graduate with a first class or 2:1 degree.
Speaking at the partnership contract signing Paul Lovegrove, Chief Executive Officer, Navitas University Partnerships Europe & Chief Operating Officer Navitas Global said:
“I am delighted that Navitas will continue to work alongside Birmingham City University as its trusted partner. Together we will enable international students to access their chosen degree programme and go on to realise their educational and career ambitions. The sector has faced some of its toughest challenges in these recent times, but throughout all we’ve worked hard to ensure our students are supported at every stage and enjoy an enriched learning experience.
“The College team and I are excited for the next chapter, working together with the University to realise their global ambitions and preparing students for success after graduation by building cross-cultural competencies inside and outside of the classroom.”
Philip Plowden, Birmingham City University Vice Chancellor commented:
“International students play an incredibly important part in our University, helping us to create a truly diverse community and in achieving our ambition of being recognised as a globally facing academic institution that transforms lives through higher education.
“We’re delighted to be continuing our work with Navitas through the extension of this long-term partnership. In a year when the city will further establish its place on the world stage, we look forward to developing the international student experience at Birmingham City University with the Navitas team.”
Ebenezer Dsane-Laryea, Birmingham City University International College Director/ Principal welcomed the news:
“We pride ourselves on providing a highly personalised approach to provide students from around the world with the support they need to succeed in their academic studies, from pre-sessional English to Foundation, Year One and beyond – we are there to support at every step of the student journey. We recruit students from more than 130 countries and the Navitas’ extensive global network of experts mean that we are uniquely positioned to broaden the reach of the University in key markets.”
To mark the occasion the University and the College planted 20 trees across the University estate including a Flowering Cherry, a Bird Cherry and a Crab Apple – representing the strong partnership, growth and opportunities ahead. The trees were planted by Navitas and the University Senior Leadership team, with others planted by students who have progressed through pathway programmes at the College onto the University.
